Zirprotekt®
High-Performance High-Temperature Resistant Ceramic Coating for protecting refractories and increasing their lifespan.
Suitable up to 1800oC.- Global Infrastructure Development: Expanding infrastructure projects, including construction and transportation, demand high-quality construction materials like concrete and steel, which are produced using kilns and high-temperature systems.
- Increased Manufacturing Demand: As consumer demand for goods continues to grow, industries such as ceramics, metallurgy, cement, and glass production are expanding their operations. Kilns and high-temperature systems are indispensable in these sectors for processes like firing, smelting, and annealing.
- Advanced Materials: The development of advanced materials, including high-performance alloys and composites, necessitates precise temperature control during production. High-temperature systems are essential for shaping and processing these materials.
- Renewable Energy: The growth of renewable energy technologies, such as solar panels, relies on the production of specialized materials that require high-temperature processing.
- Innovations in Research: Scientific research and development in various fields, such as materials science, nanotechnology, and pharmaceuticals, often require high-temperature conditions for experiments and synthesis processes. Stringent environmental regulations and rising concerns regarding climate change require industries to implement cleaner and more efficient technologies as well as lessen the fuel consumption.
This is where Zirprotekt® comes in.
Why the need for Zirprotekt coatings on refractories or metals:
Zirprotekt® coatings play a vital role in various high-temperature industrial applications, contributing significantly to energy efficiency and the protection of refractory materials like bricks and fibers or on metal surfaces exposed to high temperatures like flue lines. Zirprotekt® acts as a protective barrier, helping to save energy by preventing damage to the surfaces of these materials.
Particularly in industries where extreme temperatures are commonplace, the longevity and performance of refractory materials are of paramount importance. Specialized Refractory coatings like Zirprotekt® have emerged as indispensable tools in this regard, serving as a shield for refractory bricks and fibers against the harsh conditions of high-temperature environments.
How does application of Zirprotekt® help?
- Protection Against Erosion and Corrosion: Zirprotekt® coating is engineered to resist erosive forces, such as chemical attack and abrasive particles present in industrial duels. By preventing the erosion and corrosion of refractory surfaces, Zirprotekt® coating ensures that the refractory materials maintain their integrity over time.
- Thermal Insulation: Zirprotekt coating often provides an additional layer of thermal insulation, reducing heat loss from refractory linings. This insulation property not only improves energy efficiency but also helps maintain consistent, uniform and controlled temperatures within processing units.
- Reduction in Heat Loss: One of the key benefits of Zirprotekt® coating is the ability to create a thermal barrier, which minimizes heat loss through the refractory lining. This is particularly crucial, as in every industry now, energy costs are a significant concern.
- Extended Service Life: By shielding refractory materials from extreme conditions, Zirprotekt® coating extends the service life of bricks and fibers. This means fewer replacements and maintenance shutdowns, leading to increased operational efficiency and reduced energy consumption associated with repairs and replacements.
- Enhanced Product Quality: In industries such as metallurgy, ceramics or glass manufacturing, precise temperature control is critical for producing high-quality products. Zirprotekt® coating ensures that refractory linings remain intact and consistent, contributing to product quality and reducing energy waste.
Application Areas
- Clean the refractory surface using a wire brush to remove any soot or loose pieces or particles. The brushed surface can be cleaned with compressed air, to remove any adhering dust particles.
- If the surface is glossy, make sure to roughen it sufficiently using a abrasive grinding wheel.
- Once the refractory surface is cleaned, dampen the surface with water.
- Take the appropriate quantity of Zirprotekt powder, in line with the surface area to be covered. Mix thoroughly before adding water. Continue mixing on addition of water.
- The remaining powder to be kept in an air-tight container, to prevent ingress of moisture.
- Apply by brushing or trowelling.
- For coating layers more than 2mm in thickness, multiple coats would be required.
- After using a portion of the Zirprotekt dry powder, seal the remaining quantity in an airtight container to prevent moisture absorption, thereby ensuring a longer service life.
Zirprotekt™-Metal
This is a variant of Zirprotekt®, that is designed for applications on metal surfaces, for temperatures upto 1500oC.
- It can be used for a variety of metals, except Aluminium.
- Applications: VALUE TO OUR CUSTOMERS
- Protective coating of metal chimneys, ducts, valves, gates.
- Base Plates for Kilns for protecting them against corrosive gases at high temperatures.
- The base substrate can be of Mild Steel / Stainless Steel. The application can be by spraying or trowelling.
- The main purpose is to protect them for damages due to hot corrosive gases, particularly Flue Gases.
- The insulating characteristics of Zirprotekt®-Metal also lower the heat conducted to the base substrate.
